For this week’s Nexus 5 ROM of the Week, check out Android 5.0 Lollipop ROM with root! This is not the final version of Android 5.0 (as it is still a preview) but after trying it for couple days I can say the final product is going to be nearly identical. While you wait for the official version of Android 5.0 Lollipop in few weeks with the upcoming Nexus 6, you can certainly run it on your Nexus 5 as daily driver. What’s new with Android 5.0 Lollipop?
For those of you who are thinking about getting a OnePlus One, I am sure you are having a hard time getting an invite, if you have not got one yet. There’s a way to convert your Nexus 5 into OnePlus One since OnePlus One uses a slightly modified version of CM11 ROM. OnePlus One has its own Next camera app (which is pretty cool), lockscreen, AudioFX app (sorta like ViperAudio, pretty cool audio app actually), and couple other features. You can get most of
Finally! Thanks to XDA user vomer, now you do not have to install the firmware manually but easily install it using CWM/TWRP recovery by using a flashable zip file. This is exact same version of Android L Preview firmware, but you can easily get it without having all of your storage erased. Now you can try it out easily by making a backup ROM, then installing the Android L Preview ROM. Once you are done, you can restore your old ROM back so definitely give this beasty L Preview a try this week(end) and do let me know what you think! To get root with Android L Pre
Google has just released Android 5.0 L Preview for Nexus 5 today. Now this isn’t a consumer’s version but a “preview” version for developers. There’s plenty bugs and some of your favorite apps may not work so I do suggest making a backup ROM before trying this. UPDATE: There’s now Android 5.0 L Preview ROM you can install, you do not need to do this anymore! Also, installing this Android L Preview will erase everything on your
For this week’s Nexus 5 ROM of the Week, check out Mahdi ROM. Based on latest Android 4.4.4, Madhi ROM brings you the latest Android 4.4.4 along with lots of great customization including Hover, floating window (do a long-press in an app in Recents), Shake events, Animations, and much more. What I really like about Madhi ROM is the performance, it’s really blazing-fast as the CPU parameters have been adjusted to run much faster while you use the phone but goes into deep sleep when you are not. I notice this combination gives you some good performance whil
Here’s a quick update on Android 4.4.4, which was just released today. There’s not too much changes other than minor security updates. I suspect it may have something to do with the latest TowelRoot, which allows easy rooting on Android 4.4.3 through a security hole in Linux kernel. It could be that this update fixes that but I don’t see any other changes. I don’t think you need to actually upgrade but if you really want to, just grab the zip file and install with CWM or TWRP. If you have stock Android 4.4.3 ROM with root then this will simply u
Google has released Android 4.4.3 for Nexus 5 couple days ago and if you have not updated yet to Android 4.4.3, you can easily grab the Android 4.4.3 Stock ROM with root for your Nexus 5. This is exact, identical version of the released stock firmware but you can easily flash it using CWM or TWRP recovery since it’s in CWM/TWRP-flashable zip format, the preferable method to update for rooted Nexus 5 users. There are some major updates under the hood although there’s not much visual changes other than the dialer and version change to 4.4.3. You will find m

Based on Android 4.4.2 KitKat, SOKP ROM aims to bring users endless number of customization/features along with full multi-window and floating multi-window working nearly flawless. This also is their “milestone” version, meaning it’s going to be as stable as it gets. Racer kernel does a pretty good job of making SOKP ROM even faster along with excellent battery life. As a bonus, Racer kernel can also enable Sweep-2-Wake, Sweep-2-Sleep, and Double-Tap-to-Sleep usin

(For 4.4.3/4.4.4, use the latest version of SuperSU below!) Before we begin, please MAKE A BACKUP of EVERYTHING on your internal storage such as personal photos, videos, and other files. Unlocking bootloader WILL ERASE EVERYTHING on your Nexus 5!!! Download Nexus5Root.zip and unzip the files. You should get a directory c
Google has just released another update with Android 4.4.4 KTU84P Stock Firmware for the Nexus 5 Android smartphone. The update isn’t huge as Android 4.4.3 was just released couple weeks back but it seems like a minor security update. I should be posting a rooted version of this that you can install using CWM/TWRP recovery but in the meanwhile, you can grab the latest Android 4.4.4 stock firmware here.
Getting GetProp error that you don’t have the latest HHZ11k bootloader while installing a new custom ROM? This is due to the fact that some of the latest custom ROMs require the latest bootloader. You can unroot your Nexus 5 to the latest firmware to get the HHZ11k bootloader OR there’s a simpler way, just use fastboot to upgrade your bootloader manually. Step 1. To do this, simply put your Nexus 5 into bootloader mode (see video if you don’t know how).
